To have more time in Salzburg you will take the Autobahn (Interstate) to Salzburg (1.5 hours).
First stop in Salzburg is little bit south of the city center, surrounded by an artificial lake, the rococo palace Leopoldskron. In 1964, when the film Sound of Music was filmed in Salzburg, 10 outdoor scenes were filmed here portraying the von Trapp Family home.
Next is Hellbrunn Palace with its trick fountains. Hellbrunn was used as pleasure palace by the archbishops of Salzburg. It was used as a place for celebration, for pleasure, and rehabilitation by the prince archbishops. The bishops used Hellbrunn as a holiday domicile with a huge park and trick fountains.
Make yourself comfortable in your comfortable touring vehicle and experience the beautiful landscape on the way to the lake district. After a short drive from Salzburg, you’ll reach the castle of Fuschl. Capture a picture of the castle of Fuschl with the emerald-green Lake Fuschlsee as its backdrop.
The next lake is lake Wolfgangsee with the village St Gilgen. The beautiful village St Gilgen is the birthplace of Mozart’s Mother, and it was also used for the Sound of Music.

The last highlight on this 8-hour lake district tour is a stop at the Sound of Music Church in Mondsee. After eight hours exploring one of Austria’s most beautiful areas, your private tour will conclude either with drop-off at your Salzburg city hotel or at the train station to get on the train back to Munich (1,5 hours).
